Remember when we were kids in elementary school and there was that one fat kid in the class? Well now its no longer just the fat kid… its more like the fat group of kids. One third- thats one in three children- are overweight or obese. That is why it is called an epidemic of obesity. So, if you have children, why is this happening. I don’t have kids, but if I did, I know for 100% certain that I would either find extra curricular activities to put them in, or have a general rule that they must participate in minimally one sport at all time. Okay, perhaps it is easier said than done, but children do learn by example, and I am always in the process of enjoying one home workout or another. Even if sports are not your thing, there are so many ways to get active, and if you want healthy children, you have to be healthy as well.

As an obese child, these people suffer social humiliation, and their future is set for a lifetime of health problems, aches, and risk of early death. Lets stop this before it happens. Get this child on the right track, teach them about how awful fast foods are, how they are worth more than they think, and that they can change their bodies if they so choose. No one wants to grow up to be just like an obese parent… I can’t help but notice this situation time and again on reality television shows about being ‘the biggest loser’. If this describes you and your child, then make goals together, and help each other. Start a workout routine together. It can be an at-home workout where you work together and motivate the success of one another. Its a good place to start to get on the right track.

Childhood obesity is at an all time high and it is due to kids not getting enough exercise. With the invention of so many new technology gadgets like video game consoles, graphic computer games, cell phones with all the latest applications, and cable television that has over 200 channels, kids are not getting up off the couch enough to get exercise. It is a parent’s responsibility to get their child off the couch and to get them moving. They don’t even have to step away from the television as there are kids workout DVDs like Shaun T’s Fit Kids Club that are geared specifically at children to get them working out and having fun.

No child is going to want to exercise if they are not having fun doing it. This is why it is important that parents find a physical activity that their child likes and get them to do more often. This could be riding a bike, hiking, or dancing. If you child enjoys dancing, then you could invest in a workout video like Shaun T’s Fit Kids Club. Fit Kids Club was developed by fitness expert Shaun T to get children up and active while having fun learning the latest and greatest dance moves. This can be a fun exercise for both girls and boys.

The whole key to getting your kid to exercise is basically making them get up and do it. It may take a lot of encouragement and motivation from you to help you child become healthier and add more exercise into their regular schedule. Even if you child is not overweight, they still need to get regular exercise to help make them healthier and learn healthy habits for when they get older.
