Aerobic v. Anaerobic Training

People generally think of running or cycling when it comes to cardiovascular workouts, but this classification of training is actually much broader. By definition, cardio workouts are simply those things that raise your heart rate for an extended period. Cardiovascular training is generally referred to as aerobic, as opposed to anaerobic.

During aerobic training, you body is constantly receiving oxygen. This is important, particularly for those looking to lose weight, as oxygen is necessary to burn fat. Anaerobic workouts, on the other hand, are performed in short bursts and do not allow oxygen to the muscles, such as sprinting or weight lifting.
